A newer kind of remote freelance work
AI training is creating a new category of remote freelance work. Instead of building AI models, domain experts are paid to evaluate outputs, review reasoning, create realistic tasks and help improve model performance.
The work is contracted by the platforms that run these projects for AI labs. A clinician grades medical answers, a lawyer checks a contract analysis, an engineer reviews generated code against a rubric. Projects are remote and typically scoped to a task, a project or a period rather than a permanent role; each listing states its own arrangement.
- How the work is engaged
- The platforms on this board primarily engage experts as independent contractors, paid per hour, per task or per project as the listing states. Some roles are part-time and ongoing, some are one-off studies. The listing says which.
- What the pay means
- Every rate is what the listing advertises, not what anyone earns. Hours, task volume and screening decide the rest. The high-paying remote jobs page sorts the board by advertised ceiling.
- Before you apply
- Read the eligibility and the screening on the listing, and the platform comparison for how each one vets and pays. New to the work? Start with what AI evaluation work is and your first project.
