What the work involves

You sit on the other end of a chat window from small-business owners who need a real answer about their books. The traffic is mixed: a share of it is general help — where a setting lives in QuickBooks Online, why a report won't run, how to reconnect a bank feed — and a share of it is genuinely hard accounting work, where someone pastes in a P&L, a chart of accounts, or a reconciliation that won't clear and expects you to read it correctly and say something defensible. Expect high volume, multiple conversations open at once, and periodic PPT-based tasks assigned outside the chat queue.

Because this sits inside Turing's AI data and evaluation business, the work has a second life: your responses become signal about what a competent accounting response looks like under real conditions. That means consistency and accuracy matter more than speed theatre. Saying "I'd need to see the bank feed for that period before I answer" is a valid response; guessing is not.

What the platform screens for

  • Live QBO fluency. Not "I used it in 2019." Screeners probe for current, hands-on familiarity with QBO's actual behaviour — bank rules, undeposited funds, class and location tracking, accrual vs. cash toggles in reports.
  • Chat-support experience specifically. Written, concurrent, ticketed support is a different skill from client advisory calls. Prior omnichannel or multi-queue chat work is an explicit requirement.
  • Judgment under incomplete data. Can you tell the difference between a question you can answer from what's on screen and one that needs escalation, a caveat, or a request for more documents?
  • Scope discipline. Knowing where bookkeeping guidance ends and tax advice or attest work begins, and saying so.

Logistics

Fully remote, US only. Contractor engagement with no paid leave. Roughly four months with extension possible based on performance. Minimum four hours a day, up to 40 hours a week, with at least four hours overlapping Pacific time — so applicants on the East Coast should expect late-afternoon and evening coverage. The listing does not publish a rate; ask for the band and the billing basis (hourly vs. per-task) before you commit hours.
