What the work involves

You will spend most of your time in two modes. In the first, you write reference material: a prompt scenario (say, a $40M SaaS business closing Q2 with revenue 6% under plan and opex favorable on delayed hiring) and the slide or short deck an experienced FP&A lead would actually put in front of a CFO. In the second, you judge model output — reading an AI-generated monthly business review deck or variance exhibit and marking where it fails: a bridge that doesn't foot, a price/volume/mix decomposition that double-counts, commentary that restates the number instead of explaining the driver, a board page that buries the ask under three charts nobody requested.

Typical task families include MBR decks, budget and forecast presentations, variance analysis exhibits, board finance packages, long-range plan narratives, and KPI dashboard slides. Written rationale matters as much as the artifact. A rating without a specific, reproducible reason for it is close to worthless to the lab, so expect to explain what a finance audience would have wanted instead and why.

What the platform screens for

  • Real ownership of executive or board reporting, not adjacency to it — the screen probes who your audience was, what you were accountable for, and what happened when the numbers moved late.
  • Variance storytelling under follow-up: can you separate driver from arithmetic, and defend a decomposition when pushed.
  • Slide craftsmanship as judgment, not decoration — page hierarchy, exhibit choice, what belongs in an appendix.
  • Willingness to write criticism that is concrete. Vague grading is the most common reason contributors wash out.

Logistics

Fully remote and asynchronous; no standing meetings. Commitment is flexible between 5 and 20 hours per week, with room for more if you want it. Rate observed at $80/hour — as always, band and volume depend on the project queue and are not guaranteed. The interview includes an AI voice screen, so plan for a spoken conversation where follow-up questions come immediately and answers are expected in specifics.
