The work
Contributors turn realistic enterprise engineering problems into evaluation tasks for AI systems. Day-to-day work includes defining scenarios, drafting reference specifications or analyses, and building rubrics that distinguish sound engineering judgment from plausible but unsafe or incomplete responses. Subject areas may include power and grid infrastructure, semiconductor and PCB design, embedded systems and firmware, signal processing, and control systems.
Technical scope
Tasks can involve circuit analysis and simulation, EMC/EMI compliance, control theory, reliability analysis, failure mode analysis, design reviews, manufacturing, and regulatory certification. The International track uses IEC. The US track uses NEC / NFPA 70, NESC, and IEEE. Broader certification knowledge may include UL and FCC. Relevant tools include Altium Designer, Cadence, MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE simulation platforms, and enterprise PLM/EDA systems.
Screening focus
The platform is likely to test whether you can describe specific systems you owned, identify the governing constraints, and explain decisions under technical follow-up. It will also look for evaluation judgment: recognizing unsafe assumptions, separating critical errors from minor omissions, and writing reference answers and rubrics that remain useful across more than one valid design approach. Experience authoring design documentation, engineering training, or rubrics is useful, while a US PE, CEng, or EUR ING is listed as a plus rather than a stated requirement.
Logistics
The listing does not specify whether the engagement is remote, whether work is asynchronous, or what weekly hours are typical. Candidates should be ready to state their actual availability and clarify scheduling expectations with Mercor before accepting work.
