The work
Contractors complete real-world 2D game development tasks in Defold. Day-to-day work can include writing Lua scripts, configuring game objects and components, implementing animations, refining player controls and UI, debugging defects and optimizing runtime performance. You will also explain how you approached each task and create detailed prompts or instructions that another developer could follow.
What the platform screens for
The screening is likely to test whether you can discuss specific Defold projects under follow-up, rather than offer general game development claims. Expect questions about collection and object structure, component communication, Lua scripting, animation state, input handling, debugging and performance tradeoffs. Hands-on experience with Lua scripting and 2D game development is preferred. English proficiency at B2 level or higher is also preferred, particularly because the work requires clear technical explanations.
Practical details
This is a remote contractor role. Access to Defold and the ability to record your screen while completing tasks are preferred. The listing does not specify whether all collaboration is asynchronous, a fixed schedule or typical weekly hours, so candidates should be ready to state their availability and any time-zone constraints clearly. The pay band below is observed from the listing and is not guaranteed.
Pay band: $70–130/hr
