You will work with manuscript excerpts and full drafts across genres, doing the thing you already do — but making your reasoning explicit. A typical task might be: read a 4,000-word chapter, mark line-level edits, then write commentary explaining why a paragraph's rhythm collapses, why a character's motivation reads as unearned, or why a transition between scenes fails. A second stream involves grading AI-generated editorial feedback: deciding whether a model's note on pacing is genuinely correct, plausible-but-wrong, or generically flattering. You may also contribute to rubrics and editorial style guidance that shape how future tasks are scored.

The critical shift from publishing work is that the justification is the deliverable. A margin note reading "tighten" is useless here. The same note expanded into "three consecutive sentences open with a subordinate clause, which flattens the emphasis the scene needs on the final line" is the product.

What the platform screens for

  • Verifiable publication history. Titles, houses, imprints, authors, your actual role (developmental, line, copy, acquisitions). Awards and bestseller lists are a plus, not a gate.

  • Evaluation judgment. Can you distinguish a defensible stylistic choice from an error? Can you tell when an AI's critique is confidently wrong?
