What the work actually involves
You write the hard problems, not the textbook ones. A typical day means authoring realistic scenarios — a revenue recognition judgment under ASC 606 with contested performance obligations, a goodwill impairment trigger with ambiguous evidence, a control deficiency that may or may not aggregate to a material weakness — and then producing the gold-standard solution with reasoning a reviewer can audit. Your answer key has to hold up when another Manager-or-above disagrees with it, so citations to the standard and an explicit statement of the judgment you exercised matter more than a clean final number.
The second half of the role is calibration. You review other experts' tasks and solutions, fix technically wrong answers, flag items that are defensible-but-not-gold, and escalate genuine rubric ambiguity to the Functional SME Lead rather than quietly resolving it your own way. Turing is explicit that owning day-to-day quality is part of the job, which means volume alone will not carry you.
What the screen looks for
- Verifiable seniority: 8–15 years, at Manager–Director level in public accounting or as an industry Controller. Staff-level breadth does not substitute.
- A regionally relevant qualification — CPA, CA, or ACCA. CIA or CISA is treated as an advantage, not a requirement.
- Depth in US GAAP specifically, including disclosure and reporting requirements, held under follow-up questioning.
- Internal controls design and evaluation experience, and audit judgment you can narrate on a real engagement.
- Willingness to be wrong in writing — the screen rewards candidates who distinguish a defensible alternative treatment from an error.
Logistics
Fully remote contractor engagement, up to 9 weeks, hiring across APAC/MEA and North America. Minimum 4 hours per day, up to 40 hours per week, with 4 hours overlapping Pacific time — for APAC and MEA candidates that means late evenings or early mornings, and the screen will ask about it directly. Pay band is undisclosed for this listing; Turing typically sets hourly rates by region and seniority at offer stage. Process: shortlisted candidates receive a Job Interest Form, then final selections move to onboarding.
