What the work involves
You are the accounting authority checking a model's output against GAAP, audit standards, and tax rules. A typical task queue mixes several formats: read a model-drafted set of financial statements and flag misclassifications, missing disclosures, or footnote errors; critique a proposed audit program for a given business scenario and name the gaps in evidence or sampling; open a spreadsheet financial model and trace whether the logic, links, and assumptions actually support the conclusion; or read two competing answers to a tax-compliance question and rank them with written reasoning. Much of the value is in the written justification — a reviewer who marks an answer wrong without citing the standard, the line item, or the compliance risk produces data the project can't use.
What the platform screens for
micro1 runs an AI-led interview before any project assignment. Expect verification of degree and job titles, then domain probing that goes several follow-ups deep: not "do you know revenue recognition" but a specific fact pattern with a follow-up on what evidence you'd request. Screeners also test evaluation judgment — whether you can distinguish a model answer that is wrong from one that is merely incomplete or stylistically weak, and whether you can explain an error at a level a non-accountant annotator could act on. No AI or machine-learning background is required; prior exposure to data labeling, annotation, or model evaluation is treated as a plus rather than a gate.
Logistics
- Contractor engagement, US-based, fully remote and largely asynchronous.
- Work is drawn from a task queue; many experts run 10–20 hours a week alongside practice or employment, and volume fluctuates with customer project phases.
- Some tasks include verbal feedback or calls with cross-functional teams, so expect occasional synchronous time in US business hours.
- Rates observed in the $60–120/hr range and not guaranteed; placement within the band tracks credentials, specialty, and task type.
