What the work involves

You'll spend your sessions reading AI output that looks like something a registered rep or advisor might send a client — a portfolio rebalancing proposal, a suitability rationale for a variable annuity, a commodity hedging explanation, a market commentary paragraph — and deciding whether it holds up. Much of the work is head-to-head: two model responses to the same client scenario, and you rank them on financial soundness, regulatory compliance, and analytical rigor, then write the reasoning. The written justification is the deliverable. A ranking without a defensible explanation of why the losing answer fails is generally rejected.

Expect a mix of task types across the project: scoring single artifacts against a rubric, pairwise comparisons, and occasionally rewriting a flawed response into a compliant, accurate version. The errors you're hunting are rarely arithmetic — they're unsuitable recommendations dressed in confident language, omitted risk disclosure, performance claims that wouldn't survive a compliance review, guarantees where none exist, and analysis that cites relationships that don't hold.

What the platform screens for

Mercor's screen is AI-led and follow-up heavy. It probes whether your securities experience is real and recent: what you sold, to whom, under what supervisory structure, which licences you held and whether they're still active. Generic answers get drilled. It also tests evaluation judgment — given a plausible-sounding but flawed AI answer, can you name the specific failure rather than saying it "feels off"? Candidates who can separate wrong from non-compliant from poorly reasoned do well, because those are three different scores on most rubrics.

Logistics

  • Fully remote and asynchronous; you pick your hours within task deadlines.
  • 20+ hours per week is a stated requirement, not a suggestion — throughput is tracked.
  • Duration roughly 4–6 weeks, immediate start.
  • Payment is task-based initially, with the first approved task triggering payment. Completing that first task inside the required window is what qualifies you for hourly pay on the remainder. The $70–110/hr band is observed on comparable finance quests, not guaranteed.
