What the work actually is
Despite the generalist SME title used on the board, the posted requirements describe a sports-and-fantasy specialist seat. You are the person who decides what "correct" looks like when a model builds a fantasy draft board, a live scoreboard, or a standings tracker. Day to day that means defining discovery parameters (sport, league size, scoring format, roster settings) and guardrails (positional limits, PPR versus standard, tier-based value versus raw projected points), validating context files such as player projections and roster exports, and verifying golden assets — scoring formulas, tiebreaker chains, playoff seeding logic, draft-value calculations — before they become the reference the model is graded against.
A large share of the job is translation: turning a league constitution written in prose into deterministic spreadsheet logic that produces the same answer every time. If a rule says "ties broken by head-to-head, then division record, then points for," you must be able to express that as an unambiguous formula chain and defend the edge cases where two teams never played. You will also review and sign off on AI-generated outputs, which means writing short, specific rejection notes that a builder can act on rather than vague dissatisfaction.
What the screen looks for
- Verifiable domain depth — five or more years in sports analytics, fantasy content or tool development, or league commissioning, with hands-on familiarity across scoring systems, player tiers, roster limits, and tiebreaker logic.
- Spreadsheet determinism — whether you actually build formulas or just read outputs. Expect follow-ups asking you to describe a specific formula structure.
- Written precision — concise professional writing; sign-off notes are a deliverable, not an afterthought.
- Availability honesty — 40 hours a week with 8 hours overlapping PST, plus weekend on-call. Candidates who hedge here tend to get filtered.
Logistics
Contractor engagement, up to 10 weeks, remote. You supply your own desktop or laptop and a stable high-speed connection. Part-time arrangements are stated as acceptable, but weekend on-call availability is a stated condition. Pay was not disclosed on this listing; Turing typically sets rates during the delivery interview stage and bands vary by domain and region. Shortlisted candidates receive a Job Interest Form first, then a delivery interview.
