What the work involves

This is brief-driven production work rather than open-ended creative direction. You receive a written brief specifying a style, subject, palette and set of required variations, then deliver images that hit those specifications consistently — retouching and manipulating source photos, colour-correcting, and in many cases producing original artwork that reads convincingly as oil painting, watercolour, sketch, paper art, pop art, abstract/geometric or mixed medium. Expect to deliver multiple variants of the same concept and to keep them visually coherent as a set.

A large part of the value to the client sits in the paperwork around the image. You are asked to document prompts, tool steps and metadata clearly, because the output feeds model training and evaluation pipelines where provenance and reproducibility matter as much as the final JPEG. Editors who treat documentation as an afterthought tend to get their batches sent back.

What the platform screens for

Turing's process is portfolio-first: applications are shortlisted, then a portfolio review happens before any onboarding. The review is looking for range across distinct visual styles — not ten variations of one signature look — plus evidence of precise retouching and an understanding of composition, colour theory and lighting that you can articulate, not just demonstrate. Screening conversations typically probe how you interpret an ambiguous brief, how you handle revision rounds, and whether your claimed tool fluency in Photoshop, Procreate and Illustrator holds up under specific questions. Three years of professional experience is the stated bar, though graduates from design schools are explicitly invited to apply on portfolio strength.

Practical logistics
