What the work involves

You receive a task — a board-ready deck, a three-statement model, a client proposal, an executive memo — alongside one or more model-generated attempts at it. Your job is to find what a partner or CFO would find: the SUMIF that silently excludes a row, the figure in the appendix that no longer agrees with the executive summary, the master-slide override that breaks the template on export, the dangling hyperlink to a prior client's folder. You then write up what's wrong in terms specific enough that a model can learn from it, and often produce the corrected deliverable yourself as a reference. Other days you'll build the task instead: authoring a realistic proposal review brief or a formula audit checklist for the model to attempt.

  • Formatting and template-compliance reviews on slide decks, including brand systems and master-slide hygiene
  • Formula and link audits on spreadsheets — reference errors, hardcodes buried in formulas, circularity, broken external links
  • Proofing passes on memos and proposals for accuracy, tone, and internal consistency
  • Cross-document consistency tracking where a number or claim appears in several artifacts

What the platform screens for

Ethos runs an AI voice screen before any project assignment. It is less interested in your job titles than in whether you can describe, unprompted, the specific error classes you hunt for and the order you hunt them in. Expect follow-ups that push past a general answer: name the formula error, say how you caught it, say what you changed. Reviewers who can only say "I check everything carefully" tend not to advance. The second thing measured is evaluation judgment — whether you can rank two flawed outputs against each other and justify the ranking by severity of consequence rather than by count of defects.

Logistics

Fully remote, asynchronous, no fixed hours. The stated range is 5–20 hours per week with room to take more when batches are open; work arrives in batches and volume fluctuates. $70/hour is the rate observed on this listing and is not guaranteed across projects or over time. You'll need working access to Office or Google Workspace — tasks span Word/Docs, Excel/Sheets, and PowerPoint/Slides, and file fidelity issues on export are themselves part of what gets reviewed.
