What the work actually involves

You'll spend most of your time on two kinds of tasks. The first is generative: given a client situation, produce the deliverable an EM would produce — a storyline, a ghost deck, a steering committee read-out, an executive summary page that actually synthesises rather than lists. The second is evaluative: read what the model produced and judge it the way you'd judge a second-year's draft before it goes to a partner. That means marking where the pyramid breaks, where an action title is a label instead of an argument, where the data on the page doesn't support the headline, and where a page is structurally fine but would still get cut because it doesn't move the story forward.

Written rationale carries as much weight as the verdict. A rating of 3/7 with no explanation is close to useless for training; a rating of 3/7 that says the horizontal logic holds but the vertical logic doesn't — pages 4 and 5 both support the same sub-argument and page 6 is orphaned is what the lab is paying for. Expect to write several hundred words of critique per task, and to rewrite rather than merely flag on a meaningful share of them.

What the platform screens for

Ethos runs an AI voice screen before any live work. It is calibrated less on where you worked than on whether consulting craft vocabulary is load-bearing in how you talk. Screeners probe for: concrete engagement examples with your actual role in them, the ability to articulate why a storyline fails and not just that it does, and comfort giving a decisive judgment on a deliverable that is competent but not good enough. Vague seniority claims and recycled firm language get followed up on hard.

  • Tenure and level are verified — EM, PL, Case Team Leader or equivalent, with real team leadership

Logistics

Fully remote, fully asynchronous, no standing meetings. Flexible 5–20 hours per week with room to take more if you want it; work is claimed from a queue on your own schedule. The $100/hour figure is what contributors on this engagement have reported — rates vary by task type and can change as the project scopes shift. Suitable alongside a current consulting role, an independent practice, or a corporate strategy seat, subject to your own non-compete and moonlighting obligations.
