Assessment and project scope
This is an unpaid qualifying assessment, not a fixed role or a paid trial. Passing enters you into an ongoing contractor pool matched to paid circuit and PCB evaluation projects, with assignments made through AfterQuery's browser-based review system.
What reviewers do
Day to day, reviewers compare task descriptions, schematics, layouts, parts lists, datasheets and mechanical drawings to identify contradictions or omissions. They assess mixed-signal circuit operation, component values and ratings, power-up behavior, protection, placement, routing, manufacturability, assembly, mechanical fit, test access and programming access. Each finding must identify the affected part or net, explain the consequence, propose a fix and assign an appropriate severity.
What the assessment screens for
The platform looks for at least three years of end-to-end board design experience, including personally taking boards through placement, routing, fabrication, assembly and bring-up. Candidates need experience with mixed-signal designs and some boards with four or more layers, fluency in at least one of Altium, OrCAD/Allegro, PADS, Xpedition, Eagle/Fusion or KiCad, and comfort working in KiCad. Clear written English is required. The review also tests whether candidates can support must-fix findings with datasheet evidence and distinguish functional or build-blocking defects from preferences and best practices.
Practical details
The work is fully remote and asynchronous, with reviews completed in a browser. Contributors must be available for at least 10 hours per week, with no stated maximum, and work as independent contractors; payment is weekly through Stripe. The qualifying exercise takes about 20 minutes for one board review followed by five focused questions, and approved candidates then complete one calibration task. There is no screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timer.
Pay band: $70/hr
