What the work involves
This is a single-task audio contribution, not an ongoing engagement. You receive a short script and a step-by-step recording guide, record yourself reading it aloud in your own voice, and upload the file through the platform. Most contributors finish in under 15 minutes, including setup and a re-take or two. The recording is used as speech data — the value lies in the authenticity of the accent and the cleanliness of the capture, not in performance or dramatic delivery.
What the platform screens for
AfterQuery's screen is short and concrete. It is checking that your Spanish-influenced English is native to how you actually speak — a first-language Spanish speaker who learned English, or someone raised bilingually with a Spanish-inflected English. Imitated accents are the main rejection reason, and they are audible to reviewers. The screen also confirms you can read and follow written English instructions without hand-holding, and that you have a device that produces a usable recording: a modern smartphone in a quiet room is entirely sufficient, and no studio equipment is expected.
- Authenticity of accent, not accent "strength"
- A quiet enough recording environment (no traffic, TV, fans, echoing tiled rooms)
- Willingness to follow file-format, naming, and submission steps exactly as written
- Availability inside the project's quick-turnaround window
Logistics
Fully remote and fully asynchronous — you record whenever it suits you inside the turnaround window and upload. Pay is stated by the platform as a flat $50 for a single accepted recording submission; the $30/hr band is the observed effective rate given the roughly 15-minute task length, not an hourly contract. There is no guarantee of repeat work, though contributors who submit clean audio on the first pass are commonly invited back when similar batches open.
