What the work involves

This is a single-session audio contribution task, not an ongoing engagement. You receive a short English script and a step-by-step recording guide, record yourself reading it on a smartphone or computer microphone, and upload the file through the designated platform. Most contributors report finishing in 15 minutes or less, including setup and a retake or two. The listing states a flat $50 for a single accepted submission; the $30/hr figure is an inferred hourly equivalent, and repeat batches depend entirely on whether the client extends the project.

What the platform screens for

The core requirement is authenticity. AfterQuery is collecting Indonesian-influenced English speech for speech-model training and evaluation, which means the accent must be your own — someone who grew up speaking Indonesian (or a regional Indonesian language) and learned English as a second or additional language. Imitated, performed, or coached accents are the specific failure mode this screen exists to catch, and submissions that sound like an actor doing an impression are rejected. Beyond that, the bar is practical:

  • Can you read English prose aloud fluently, without long stalls or misreadings?
  • Can you follow written setup instructions independently, without hand-holding?
  • Is your recording environment quiet enough that the speech is the loudest thing on the file?

Logistics

Fully remote and fully asynchronous — there is no live session, no interviewer, and no scheduled call. You claim the task, record, and submit. Turnaround expectations are short, so applicants who can complete within a day or two of being assigned are favoured. No professional studio, interface, or editing software is required; a modern phone in a carpeted room with the windows shut is the practical baseline. Prior narration, voiceover, or dubbing experience is welcome but genuinely optional, and the guide assumes no audio background.

Honest expectations

Treat this as a one-off task with the possibility of follow-on batches, not as recurring income. Contributors who deliver clean audio on the first pass and follow the file-naming and format instructions exactly are the ones invited back when the client expands the dataset.
