What the work involves
AfterQuery is collecting authentic accented-English speech for audio model training and evaluation. Your part is small and self-contained: you receive a short script, a recording guide, and a submission link. You read the script aloud in your normal English — the English you actually speak as a Finnish speaker — record it on a phone or laptop, check it against the guide's requirements, and upload it. Most contributors finish in under fifteen minutes.
The critical word is authentic. The dataset is only useful if the accent is native to the speaker. Contributors who perform an accent, exaggerate it, or flatten it toward a neutral American or British delivery produce recordings that are rejected at review. There is no acting involved here; the ask is that you read clearly and sound like yourself.
What the screening looks for
- A genuine Finnish-influenced English accent. Expect to be asked where you grew up, what language you spoke at home, and how long you have spoken English. Some screens include a short spoken sample.
- Working equipment and a quiet space. A smartphone microphone is fine. A room with echo, traffic noise, or background conversation is not.
- Instruction-following. The guide specifies things like file format, distance from the mic, and whether to re-record on a stumble. Submissions that ignore those details get bounced back.
Logistics
Fully remote and asynchronous, with no interview beyond the screening and no scheduled calls. Pay is stated by the platform as a flat $50 per accepted recording submission — a single deliverable, not an hourly engagement, and observed rates on short audio tasks vary between batches. Turnaround is quick: projects like this typically ask for submission within a few days of assignment, and strong contributors are often invited back for later batches.
