What the work involves
This is applied-software evaluation, not survey-taking. You'll be asked to perform genuine Origin workflows — importing instrument data, building multi-layer plots, running nonlinear curve fits, doing peak deconvolution and baseline subtraction, batch-processing worksheets, setting up analysis templates — while capturing your screen and documenting each step precisely enough that a model's attempt at the same task can be graded against yours. Some tasks run the other direction: you inspect an AI's proposed sequence of Origin operations and judge whether it would actually produce the stated result, or whether it invented a menu path, misapplied a fitting function, or ignored the weighting scheme the data required.
The useful contributor here is someone whose Origin knowledge came from doing science with it — XRD patterns, spectroscopy peaks, stress-strain curves, kinetics fits — rather than from a tutorial. Screeners consistently reward people who can name the specific dialog, the specific fitting function, and the specific failure mode, and who can explain why a fit that converged is still wrong.
What the platform screens for
- Verified hands-on use. Expect questions about workflows only a regular user would know: Analysis Templates, the Fitting Function Builder, Peak Analyzer's wizard pages, LabTalk or Set Column Values, batch processing.
- Judgment about correctness. Can you tell a plausible-sounding wrong answer from a right one, and articulate the test that separates them?
- Hard technical gates. Origin installed and launchable today on Windows, plus a display that meets the resolution thresholds listed. Dual 1080p monitors captured as one spanning image satisfy it; one 1080p monitor does not.
Logistics
Fully remote and largely asynchronous, with work claimed from a queue rather than scheduled. Contributors typically commit somewhere in the 10–20 hours per week range; pay in the $45–55/hr band has been observed on comparable Mercor application-expert quests, and is set per project rather than guaranteed. Expect an onboarding calibration round before paid volume opens up, and periodic requalification if task types change.
