What the work involves
You work inside Blender the way you normally do, but with your screen captured and your reasoning made explicit. Tasks typically mean taking a stated goal — retopologise this mesh, rig and weight-paint this character, set up a three-point lighting rig in Cycles, fix the shading artefacts on this bevelled hard-surface model — and working it through in the application while recording each step. Some assignments ask you to demonstrate a workflow end-to-end; others ask you to review an AI-generated attempt at a Blender task and judge where it went wrong, in terms of the actual modifier stack, node graph, or outliner state rather than vague impressions.
The unit of value is a faithful, legible record of real software use. That means clean screen captures where the UI is readable, narration or written notes that name panels, operators and shortcuts precisely, and honesty when something doesn't work — a failed boolean or a broken UV unwrap is often more useful training signal than a polished result.
What the platform screens for
- Genuine hands-on depth. Screeners follow up on specifics: modifier evaluation order, Cycles vs EEVEE trade-offs, geometry nodes, shading normals, armature weighting. Surface familiarity falls apart under two questions.
- Breadth as a generalist. The listing names modelling, sculpting, animation and rendering. You don't need mastery of all four, but you should be able to say honestly where your depth sits.
- Working install on Windows. Blender must already be on your own Windows PC and openable today. Mercor provides no licences, VMs or hardware.
- Capture resolution. Screenshots must exceed 2.5 megapixels — either one monitor at QHD/4K-class resolution or a side-by-side dual-monitor setup captured as a single spanning image. A lone 1080p screen does not qualify.
Logistics
Fully remote and asynchronous. Work is drawn from a task queue rather than scheduled shifts, so hours are flexible; contributors commonly commit a stated weekly minimum and are paid hourly at rates observed in the $30–40 range, which vary by task type and are not guaranteed. Expect an onboarding calibration round before volume opens up.
