The work
For each assigned case, you will read two motion briefs, determine which is stronger and explain that preference. You will score both briefs on defined dimensions, then annotate the PDFs to identify legal, factual, citation and drafting errors. A short onboarding session is required before review begins, and every assigned review must be completed.
What the screening emphasizes
Mercor is looking for attorneys with active admission in at least one US state, a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and at least three years of US litigation practice. Screening is likely to probe substantial federal court experience, particularly drafting or opposing motions, and whether your practice primarily concerns federal law or matters litigated in federal court. Experience at an AmLaw 100 firm is strongly preferred, while prior legal AI, data annotation, AI evaluation or legal-benchmark work is a bonus.
Logistics
The project requires about 30–40 hours total within a single one-week review window and is immediately required. The brief reviews appear suited to asynchronous completion, apart from the onboarding session, but the listing does not state a daily schedule or explicitly confirm remote status. Candidates should verify those details before accepting and should only commit if they can finish the full review set within the required window.
Pay band: $100–120/hr
