The work

You will complete realistic product design tasks on your own Mac, including interface design, wireframing, prototyping and design-system work. As you work, you will narrate your reasoning and explain choices such as hierarchy, interaction patterns, component behavior and usability tradeoffs so the resulting workflows can support AI research.

What the screening covers

Mercor begins with a resume review and a three-minute AI interview focused on research and reasoning. Expect questions that check the specifics of your design background, proficiency with tools such as Figma, Sketch, Framer or Adobe XD, and your ability to defend decisions under follow-up. A brief paid assessment then evaluates fit through practical work. Familiarity with user research and usability testing is a plus.

Practical details

The commitment is approximately 10-20 hours per week, with an immediate start preferred. You must perform the work on a MacBook or Mac with an Apple M-series chip or Intel processor running macOS 15 or higher. The listing does not specify whether scheduling is fully asynchronous or whether any fixed working hours apply.

Pay band: $50–60/hr
