What the work actually involves
You are given tasks that only someone trained in your discipline can do reliably: judging whether a model's answer to a graduate-level question is correct, writing prompts and reference answers that a non-specialist could not produce, and flagging the errors that survive a generalist reviewer — a plausible-sounding mechanism that inverts a step, a citation to a paper that does not say what it is claimed to say, a spectrum read the wrong way round. Most tasks end with a written rationale, and the rationale is graded as heavily as the verdict. Multimodal work is explicit here: expect to interpret schematics, microscopy, imaging, maps, charts, or artworks according to the conventions of your field.
Projects arrive in windows. Each window is quoted at roughly 10–20 hours per week, and you decide whether to take it. There is no standing obligation between windows, which is why the role is pitched at people mid-degree rather than as a fixed part-time job.
What the screen is looking for
- Live enrolment. PhD, Master's, MD, or MD/PhD, currently enrolled. Candidacy stage, or MS3/MS4 and clinical rotations, is preferred but not a gate.
- Depth that holds under follow-up. Screens push past the first answer. Naming a technique is weak; explaining what it fails at and how you'd detect the failure is strong.
- Written reasoning in English. Rationales are the product. Clarity and structure matter more than length.
- Visual fluency in your discipline. Say concretely what you read and how — gels, GIS layers, CAD drawings, NMR, histology, archival images.
- Honest availability. Overpromising through a conference deadline or a qualifying exam is the most common way people wash out mid-project.
Logistics
Fully remote and asynchronous; no fixed hours and no synchronous meetings by default. Pay bands here are as observed on the platform and vary by discipline, seniority, and project — premium rates exist but are not the default. Payment is per project engagement, so income is lumpy by design. You need reliable internet and a machine that can display technical imagery at usable resolution.
