The work

This is a product engineering seat, not a research or data-labelling engagement. You'll be embedded in the team that owns a large enterprise technology organization's Android and iOS apps, with your own features to carry from technical design through code review, release, and production support. Android in Kotlin — Jetpack, Compose or views, the usual lifecycle and state headaches — is the centre of gravity. But the team expects engineers to follow a feature wherever it goes: adding an endpoint to a backend service, adjusting an API contract, touching the web app that shares the same domain model. At staff level you're also expected to raise the bar around you: reviewing thoughtfully, writing designs others can argue with, and helping less experienced engineers get unstuck.

AI coding tools are treated as ordinary equipment here rather than a novelty. Copilot, Cursor, Claude — whichever you use, the client's interest is in engineers who use them to get oriented fast in unfamiliar code and to ship without dropping quality, and who can say where they stop trusting the output.

What the screen looks for

  • Verifiable Android depth. Expect follow-ups on specific Kotlin and Jetpack decisions you made, not a tour of your résumé. Flutter or React Native experience counts, but only alongside genuine native work.
  • Evidence you've shipped outside mobile. "Some production experience" means code you owned in a backend service, API, or web app — not a side project you read about.
  • Judgment, not enthusiasm, about AI tools. Concrete workflows and concrete limits.
  • Realistic availability. 40 hours per week on weekdays, sustained. This is a full-time commitment and the screen treats it as a gate, not a preference.

Logistics and pay

The engagement is W-2 employment with Cincinnatus LLC, which acts as employer of record and handles payroll, benefits, and compliance while you work inside the client's engineering organization as part of their extended workforce. Pay in this band has been observed at $40–60/hr; it is set per engagement and not guaranteed. Work is remote but not async — you'll be in design reviews, standups, and on-call-style production support with a team that keeps weekday hours, so overlap with the client's working day matters more than in most evaluation roles on this board.
