What the work actually involves

You write assessment tasks grounded in sociological content — stratification, methods, theory, race and ethnicity, deviance, family, whatever your teaching record supports — and then build the rubric that scores them. The rubric is the deliverable that matters most: it has to be specific enough that a third-party educator who has never met you applies it and lands on the same grade you would. Expect to state the cognitive level each task targets (Bloom's or a comparable framework), write the criteria and performance levels, and document why you drew the lines where you did. A second stream of work is review: reading other experts' tasks, rubrics, or model-generated educational material and writing feedback that is concrete enough to act on — not "needs more rigor," but which criterion is unmeasurable and what should replace it.

What the platform screens for

  • Verifiable teaching and research history. Courses you've taught at the postsecondary level, institutions, and publication or dissertation work. A PhD or ABD in sociology or a near neighbour is the stated preference.
  • Assessment design as practice, not theory. Screens push on whether you've personally written rubrics that other people used, and how you handled disagreement about grades.
  • Discipline under follow-up. Expect the interviewer to pick one of your named subfields and ask a question a step deeper — a debate, a methodological weakness, a literature you'd cite.
  • Written clarity. Much of the collaboration is async and in writing, so the sample of prose you produce during screening carries weight.

Logistics

Contractor, fully remote, no fixed hours. Work arrives in batches and volume fluctuates with client demand, so treat it as supplemental rather than a salary replacement. Collaboration is largely asynchronous through the platform, with occasional calls for calibration. The $50–90/hr range reflects what contributors have reported; actual offers vary by project, seniority, and how much rubric-design evidence you bring. No prior AI experience is expected — the domain credential is the thing being bought.
