The work

You will review complete inpatient admissions, identify principal and secondary diagnoses, assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes, and assess the effects of procedures, MCCs and CCs on DRG assignment. Day-to-day tasks may also include checking documentation completeness, identifying possible provider queries, resolving coding discrepancies, and entering or validating patient information in medical record and encoder systems.

AI evaluation focus

A central part of the project is evaluating AI-generated clinical notes, summaries and code suggestions against source documentation and inpatient coding standards. The platform is likely to screen for traceable coding logic, correct use of official guidelines and AHA Coding Clinic, and the ability to recognize when the record supports a code, requires clarification or contradicts the AI output. Preferred backgrounds include current work in inpatient coding, clinical documentation improvement or a closely related role, plus an active CIC, CCS, RHIA, RHIT or another AHIMA or AAPC coding credential.
