What the work involves

You write case studies and questions drawn from real communications practice — a message architecture for a regulated product launch, a crisis holding statement under a 40-minute clock, a paid/earned/owned mix for a fixed budget, a stakeholder map for a plant closure — and then you grade what the model produces. Each item generally needs a defensible reference answer plus a rationale explaining why alternatives fail: not just that a response is thin, but that it buried the lede, mischaracterised a legal exposure, or proposed an outreach tactic no editor would accept. A meaningful share of the hours goes to evaluation rather than authoring: reading model output closely, marking specific errors, and writing feedback another reviewer can audit.

What the platform screens for

AfterQuery's screen is AI-led and pushes on specifics. Expect it to ask which campaigns you actually ran, what channels you owned, and what the measurable outcome was — then to follow up on the details of one of them. It is also testing whether you can distinguish a fluent-but-wrong model answer from a correct one; press-release-shaped prose that misses the disclosure obligation, or an audience segmentation that reads well and has no basis in any real media consumption data. Generalist communications breadth is fine here, but breadth without at least one area of genuine depth (crisis, media relations, brand, content strategy) tends not to survive follow-up questions.

Logistics

  • Fully remote, contractor engagement, no fixed shifts
  • Asynchronous: tasks are claimed from a queue, with deadlines per batch rather than per day
  • Most contributors work part-time; sustained availability of roughly 10+ hours a week is what keeps a queue assigned
  • Pay is hourly within an observed $35–75 range and varies by task complexity and demonstrated background — it is not guaranteed and rates for authoring and review may differ
  • Written English at a professional publication standard is non-negotiable; your rationales are read by other experts
