The work
You will create, solve, review and validate mechanical engineering tasks used in AI training. Day-to-day work can include translating physical requirements into analytical or computational models, preparing geometry and meshes, assigning materials, loads, contacts and boundary conditions, running simulations, and checking whether outputs satisfy physical and design constraints. Problems may span structural, thermal, mechanical and multiphysics analysis, as well as testing, design and R&D.
What the screening covers
micro1 screens for an MSc. or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, or a strong command of applied mechanics and mechanical engineering fundamentals. Expect follow-up questions about simulation-based engineering, model assumptions, solver setup, verification and validation. This is a coding-heavy role involving Python, and practical experience using coding agents in an engineering workflow is required.
Logistics
The contract is global and fully remote, with a flexible schedule of about 15 hours per week. Work can be completed asynchronously on your chosen days, including weekends. The process includes screening questions, an AI interview of approximately 30 minutes and hiring manager review; selected experts are expected to begin their first task within 24 to 48 hours after onboarding.
Pay band: $60–120/hr
Compensation is output-based, with payment for tasks that meet project specifications and minimum submission requirements. Task duration varies with the problem and the expert's workflow, so the pay band should not be treated as a guaranteed hourly return.
