The work
You will create, solve, and evaluate hardware engineering challenges based on realistic industry or research situations. Typical tasks may involve engineering calculations, simulation, model validation, verification planning, test-data analysis, reliability assessment, or failure diagnosis. Each problem and reference solution must be self-contained, technically rigorous, and independently reproducible.
Tools and screening
Validation may use Python, MATLAB, Simulink, SPICE, Julia, C/C++, test automation platforms, or equivalent engineering software when relevant. Experience working with Coding Agents is required. The approximately 30-minute AI interview is designed to test specific ownership of substantial hardware work, domain depth under follow-up, quantitative reasoning, tool selection, and judgment about whether an engineering answer is adequately supported.
Background
The listing prefers a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related field. It also favors significant professional or research experience in hardware engineering, product development, systems integration, testing, validation, reliability, or failure analysis, particularly where you personally owned a product, subsystem, model, test system, or difficult investigation.
Logistics
The role is global, fully remote, and structured as a contractor engagement of approximately 15 hours per week, with flexible scheduling and weekend work permitted. Compensation is output-based, so payment depends on tasks meeting project specifications rather than time spent, and minimum submission requirements apply. Selected experts are expected to begin immediately and start their first task within 24 to 48 hours after onboarding.
Pay band: $60–120/hr
This is an observed pay band, not a guaranteed rate.
