What the work actually involves
You will be handed policy language — declarations pages, coverage forms, endorsements, exclusions, filings — and asked to do two related things. First, produce your own analysis: does coverage attach, which endorsement controls, where is the gap between two comparable policies, does the form comply with filing or regulatory requirements. Second, and just as often, judge someone else's analysis — frequently a model's — and say precisely where the interpretation is wrong, unsupported, or inconsistent with how the industry actually reads that form. The written reasoning is the deliverable. A conclusion without a traceable path from policy text to outcome is not usable, because AfterQuery's datasets exist to teach models how the conclusion was reached.
Expect variety across lines of business: personal and commercial property and casualty, specialty, and sometimes life or health. Tasks are discrete and self-contained; there is no book of business, no client contact, and no deadline pressure beyond turnaround on the tasks you accept.
What the platform screens for
- Real hands on policy text. Screeners probe for the forms you've actually read and the determinations you personally wrote, not the department you sat in.
- Structural fluency. Whether you can move confidently between insuring agreement, conditions, exclusions and endorsements, and explain how an endorsement modifies the base form.
- Defensible reasoning. Whether you cite the operative language and name the ambiguity rather than asserting an outcome.
- Willingness to say "insufficient information." Evaluation work rewards flagging what a determination cannot support; guessing to look decisive is penalised.
Logistics
Fully remote and fully asynchronous — no scheduled calls or fixed hours. The current engagement runs roughly two to three weeks with 10–20 hours per week expected on accepted projects, and further projects are offered as they arise. Pay in the $50–100/hr range reflects rates observed on the platform for this category; the actual rate depends on the project and is set at assignment, not guaranteed.
