Workload: ~15h/week
Engagement: Project-based
Location: Location not stated
Field: Generalist

Support remote projects spanning research, data, and operations, often with incomplete instructions or unfamiliar tools. The role is flexible and hourly, with an emphasis on independent execution and consistently accurate output.

The work

Generalists may move between research, data, and operational assignments. Day-to-day work can involve clarifying an ambiguous request, learning the relevant tool or workflow, completing the task independently, and checking the result before submission.

What the screen focuses on

Mercor is likely to look for specific examples of handling unfamiliar or loosely defined work. Expect follow-up questions about how you structured a research task, validated data, learned a tool, resolved uncertainty, and decided that an output was ready to deliver.

Logistics

This is a remote, flexible hourly role. The listing does not state typical weekly hours or confirm that all collaboration is asynchronous, so candidates should be prepared to describe their actual availability and any scheduling constraints.

Interview prep — 10 questions

Matched to what this platform's screening actually measures. Answer each out loud in 60–90 seconds: claim → concrete example → implication.

What it tests: This tests whether your generalist experience involved substantive work across functions rather than a collection of unrelated minor tasks.
A strong answer: Describe the project objective, your responsibilities in each function, the concrete outputs you produced, and how the pieces connected. Include details that could withstand follow-up, such as scale, tools, deadlines, or review criteria.
Where people lose it: Listing several functions without explaining what you personally did makes the experience difficult to verify.
