What the contribution actually involves

This is a one-time data submission rather than ongoing annotation work. You open the Health app on your own iPhone, make sure your HealthKit profile is genuinely populated across categories that apply to you — activity, heart, sleep, body measurements, mindfulness, cycle tracking, whatever you actually record — and then link your health record from one of the listed institutions through Apple's Health Records network. The linked record has to bring across immunizations, lab results, medications, vitals, and clinical notes. You then consent to sharing four demographic attributes: age, gender, approximate region, and activity level. Total hands-on time is usually well under an hour if your provider is already connected; most of the effort is checking what is and isn't syncing.

What gets screened

The gates are mechanical and verifiable, not judgment-based. Your provider must appear on the qualifying list and must be actively connected to Apple HealthKit — a provider that exists but was never linked does not count. A steps-only profile is rejected. A single day or a two-week stretch of data is rejected; the reviewers are looking for continuous history. The category that fails most submissions is Clinical Notes: many health systems expose immunizations, labs, medications, and vitals through Apple Health but do not publish notes, and without that section the submission is returned unpaid. Check for it before you invest time. Synthetic, demo, or someone else's export is disqualifying.

Privacy and handling

Exports are de-identified in a HIPAA Safe-Harbor–style process before analysis: direct identifiers stripped, dates and locations generalized, free-text notes scrubbed. Contributors receive a random ID, and the mapping back to identity is stored separately from the dataset. Consent can be withdrawn later to have your contribution removed.
