Three task types recur. The third is the one that separates practicing engineers from textbook ones: flagging the design that closes the calculation and fails anyway, because it cannot be manufactured, cannot be installed, will corrode at the dissimilar-metal joint, or does not actually satisfy what the standard requires as opposed to what the equation implies.

What the screen is looking for

An engineering degree plus real design or analysis responsibility — not coursework, not coursework-adjacent research. The phrase in the listing to take seriously is "whether you have had a design of yours built, and learned what it did once it was." The AI interview will push on specifics: what you sized, under which code edition, what the review comments were, what changed after fabrication. Written reasoning carries most of the weight in these projects, so the interview also samples whether you can explain a judgment call in prose rather than gesturing at a number. Comfort with ambiguity matters because early-stage rubrics are often underspecified, and flagging an unclear instruction is treated as a contribution rather than a failure to comply.
