What the work actually involves

You'll spend most sessions doing one of three things: marking up real-world corporate documents — merger agreements, stock purchase agreements, LLC operating agreements, bylaws, convertible note and SAFE paperwork — so a model can learn what each provision does and why it sits where it sits; writing original deal hypotheticals and short research memos across M&A, securities compliance, fiduciary duties, and entity structuring; or reading AI-drafted corporate legal content and saying precisely where it is wrong. The third task dominates on most projects. A model will produce an indemnification section that reads fluently and contains a basket that never converts to a deductible, or cite Revlon in a context where it doesn't apply. Your job is to catch it, mark the specific clause or sentence, and write the rationale a mid-level associate would need to fix it themselves.

What the screen looks for

micro1's intake is an AI-led interview followed by work samples. It tests whether your transactional experience is hands-on rather than supervisory — expect follow-ups that go a layer deeper than your first answer, asking you to name the actual mechanics of a provision you mentioned. It also tests evaluation judgment, which is a distinct skill from practicing: can you distinguish a drafting choice you'd make differently from an error that would actually harm a client, and can you rank severity when a single AI answer contains four problems at once. Bar status in at least one US jurisdiction and a JD from an accredited US law school are checked. No AI or annotation background is expected or credited.

Logistics

  • Contractor engagement, remote, US-based candidates only
  • Asynchronous — no standing meetings; work is pulled from a queue against per-project guidelines
  • Volume varies by project phase; many contributors commit 10–20 hours per week, some more during ramp-ups
  • Pay is hourly in an observed $100–180 range, varying with specialization depth and project; rates are set per engagement and not guaranteed
  • Expect a calibration period where your annotations are reviewed against other attorneys' before volume opens up
