What the work actually involves

You are handed source material — a raw deck, a data dump, a client brief — and asked to produce the slide a partner would actually put in front of a CEO. That means rebuilding structure, not decorating: fixing the action title so it carries the argument, choosing the chart form that makes the insight unavoidable, cutting the three bullets that repeat the fourth. Much of the work is comparative: you will be shown model-generated slides or competing versions of the same page and asked which is stronger, why, and precisely what you would change. Your written rationale is often worth more to the customer than the artifact itself, because that reasoning is what the model learns from.

Expect a mix of task types — reconstruction of an existing slide, design from a blank page against a brief, line-level content editing, and structured critique of AI output. Volume and cadence vary by project phase; this is contract work attached to a customer initiative, not a standing role.

What the platform screens for

  • Verifiable consulting tenure. At least two years client-facing at a consulting firm. Screeners probe firm, practice area, client-facing exposure, and the kind of decks you owned — internal working documents versus steering committee material.
  • Craft under interrogation. Naming PowerPoint features is not the bar. You will be asked why a waterfall beats a stacked bar for a particular message, or how you would compress a twelve-page appendix into one exhibit.
  • Editorial judgment. Can you articulate what is wrong with a slide in terms a non-designer can act on, and can you separate taste from principle.
  • Portfolio evidence. Sanitized or redacted work that demonstrates data visualization and visual storytelling, not template polish.

Logistics

Remote and largely asynchronous, restricted to the US, UK and Canada. Work is picked up in batches against deadlines rather than fixed shifts, so contributors typically commit a defined number of hours per week and deliver on their own schedule. Desktop Microsoft PowerPoint is assumed — Google Slides or web-only PowerPoint is not a substitute for the reconstruction tasks. Pay in the $150–350/hr range has been observed on this listing; actual rates depend on project, task type and assessed calibration.
