What the work involves
micro1 is staffing a customer project that needs real tax workflows executed end to end in CCH ProSystem fx Tax and documented clearly enough that someone — or something — can learn from them. You'll receive scenarios (a 1040 with Schedule C and rental income, an 1120-S with basis questions, a partnership with guaranteed payments and state apportionment), set up the return, enter taxpayer data, work the diagnostics, and reconcile the output. Then you write up what you did and why: which input sheet you used, why you overrode a calculation, how you decided a diagnostic was informational rather than blocking.
The documentation half is not an afterthought. A return that nets to the right number but has no trace of reasoning is low-value here. Expect to spend a meaningful share of your hours writing, not just preparing.
What the screen looks for
- Actual ProSystem fx fluency, not generic tax knowledge. Interviewers probe for interview-view vs. worksheet-view navigation, government form vs. input sheet mapping, Electronic Filing Status System behavior, Pro forma rollover, and how you handle a return that won't clear diagnostics.
- Form-level specificity. Expect follow-ups that go a layer deeper than your first answer — which line, which schedule, which state module.
- Error-finding judgment. Much of the project involves spotting that provided data is incomplete or internally inconsistent and saying so precisely, rather than quietly making an assumption.
- Writing that a non-expert reviewer can follow without losing technical accuracy.
Logistics
Fully remote, contractor engagement, asynchronous task-based work. Observed rates for this listing run $90–170/hr, typically scaled to depth of ProSystem fx experience and return complexity you can handle — stated as observed, not guaranteed. Volume varies with the customer's project phase; treat it as a supplement to practice work rather than a guaranteed weekly load. Expect to use your own machine and internet; software access arrangements are confirmed during onboarding, so ask directly whether you need your own ProSystem fx license.
