What the work involves

This is a single, self-contained audio task rather than an ongoing engagement. You receive a short script and a recording guide, record yourself reading it aloud in your own voice, and upload the file. The guide specifies things like room conditions, distance from the microphone, file format, and whether retakes are permitted — following it exactly matters more than production polish. Most contributors finish in under 15 minutes including setup.

The speech data is used to build and evaluate models on accented English. That means the value of your recording lies in it being authentically yours: a native or heritage Urdu speaker whose English carries genuine Urdu phonological influence. Performed or approximated accents are the single most common reason a submission is rejected, and they are usually audible to reviewers within a sentence.

What the screen looks for

  • Authenticity of accent — evidence that Urdu is a language you actually speak, not one you studied briefly. Expect questions about where you learned Urdu, where you grew up, and how you use it day to day.
  • English reading fluency — you must be able to read an unfamiliar English script aloud smoothly and follow written English instructions without hand-holding.
  • Equipment and environment — a smartphone or computer microphone is sufficient; a quiet space is not optional.
  • Instruction compliance — the screen probes whether you read specifications carefully or improvise around them.

Logistics

Fully remote and asynchronous. There is no interview call for the recording itself, no fixed schedule, and no minimum weekly commitment. Turnaround is quick — projects of this type typically ask for submission within a few days of assignment. Pay is a flat $50 per accepted single recording; additional batches may or may not follow, and you should treat this as one-off work unless AfterQuery says otherwise. Payment terms, tax handling, and rights assignment for the audio are set by the platform, not negotiated per contributor.
