What the work involves

This is a one-off audio contribution, not an ongoing engagement. You receive a short script and a written recording guide, record yourself reading the script on a smartphone or computer microphone, and upload the file. Most contributors finish in under 15 minutes including setup. The audio is used to build speech datasets that need genuine regional accent variation — which is why the listing is explicit that imitated or performed accents are not acceptable.

The reading itself should be unforced: normal pace, normal pronunciation, no broadcast-announcer delivery. What the dataset needs is how you actually sound speaking English, not a polished narration voice. Follow the guide's specifics on file format, room noise, and distance from the mic — recordings that miss those are usually the ones sent back.

What the platform screens for

  • Authenticity of accent. Screening is designed to confirm you are a native or long-term Filipino English speaker, not someone approximating the accent. Expect questions about where you grew up, what languages you speak at home, and how long you have spoken English day-to-day.
  • Instruction-following without hand-holding. There is no producer on the call. The screen tests whether you can read a written guide and execute it correctly on the first attempt.
  • Recording setup. Whether you have a device with a working microphone and a reasonably quiet place to use it.
  • Availability now. These are quick-turnaround batches. Contributors who can record the same day they are assigned are prioritised.

Logistics

Fully remote and fully asynchronous — there is no live session, no scheduled call, and no fixed hours. Pay is stated by the platform as a flat $50 for a single accepted recording submission; the $30/hr figure is an observed equivalent based on the stated ~15-minute task length, not a guaranteed hourly rate or a promise of recurring volume. Treat this as a single small task with the possibility, not the guarantee, of further batches.
