What the work involves
This is a single-task audio contribution, not an ongoing role. AfterQuery supplies a short English script and a recording guide covering things like room noise, mic distance, pacing, and file format. You read the script aloud in your own everyday English — the accent you actually speak with, shaped by Telugu as a first or heritage language — and upload the file. Most contributors finish in under 15 minutes end to end, including reading the guide.
The recordings feed speech models that currently under-serve Indian-English accent variation. That means the value is in authenticity, not polish: a natural read with normal rhythm and vowel patterns is more useful than a performed or neutralised one. Retakes are sometimes requested if background noise, clipping, or a skipped line makes the file unusable.
What the platform screens for
- Genuine Telugu-influenced English. Screeners typically ask about your language background — where you grew up, which language you speak at home, how long you have spoken English. Imitated accents are the main disqualifier.
- Working equipment and a quiet space. A phone mic is fine. Fans, traffic, TV, and echo-heavy rooms are not.
- Instruction-following in written English. The guide is unsupervised; nobody walks you through it.
- Consent and originality. You are recording your own voice, submitting it once, and agreeing to the platform's usage terms.
Logistics
Fully remote and asynchronous, done whenever you have a quiet 15 minutes. Pay is stated by the platform as a flat $50 per accepted single submission — the $30/hr band is an effective rate, not an hourly engagement, and observed rates vary. Turnaround is quick: batches like this usually close within days of opening, so responsiveness to the invitation matters more than availability windows.
