What the work involves

AfterQuery is collecting authentic accented English speech for a fast-turnaround audio dataset. You receive a short script and a recording guide, read the script aloud into a phone or laptop microphone, and upload the file through the platform. There is no editing, no scripting of your own, and no ongoing commitment — one submission, one flat payment of $50 (the $30/hr band shown is the observed effective rate for a ~15-minute task, not a guaranteed hourly wage).

  • Read a provided script in natural, conversational English
  • Follow the recording guide exactly: file format, distance from mic, room noise, retakes
  • Upload through the designated submission link

What the platform screens for

The screen is short and mostly about authenticity and audio hygiene. Reviewers listen for a genuine Punjabi-influenced English accent — recordings that sound like an imitated or performed accent are rejected, and this is the most common rejection reason on projects of this kind. They also check basic recording conditions: no background TV or traffic, no clipping, no speakerphone echo, a consistent single take, and correct file naming. Expect a question or two confirming you can read and follow written English instructions without hand-holding, since there is no live support during the task.

Logistics

Fully remote and fully async. No scheduled calls, no shifts. Once you receive the script you are typically asked to submit within a day or two, so apply when you actually have a quiet fifteen minutes available. A smartphone microphone in a quiet room is sufficient — studio equipment is not required and does not improve acceptance odds. Payment is flat per accepted submission; repeat batches are sometimes offered to contributors whose first recording passes review cleanly.
