What the work involves
AfterQuery is collecting authentic accented English speech for audio model training and evaluation. Your contribution is one sitting: you read a supplied script aloud in your own voice, following a short step-by-step recording guide that covers file format, room conditions, distance from the microphone, and how to name and upload the file. There is no interpretation, performance direction, or scriptwriting — the value of the recording lies entirely in it being genuine, unforced Romanian-influenced English.
The accent requirement is the whole point of the project. Recordings from speakers imitating a Romanian accent are unusable and are rejected at review, so screening focuses on establishing that Romanian is a language you actually speak and that your English carries its phonetic imprint naturally. Expect to be asked where you learned each language and how long you have lived in a Romanian-speaking environment.
What the platform screens for
- Verifiable Romanian-language background rather than a claimed or acquired accent
- Enough functional English reading fluency to work through the guide and the script without hand-holding
- Working recording equipment — a modern smartphone microphone is acceptable; the ask is a quiet room, not a studio
- Willingness to re-record if the first take has background noise, clipping, or a truncated line
Logistics
Fully remote and asynchronous, with no calls or scheduled shifts. Turnaround is short — projects like this typically ask for submission within a day or two of assignment — so the practical question at screening is whether you can find fifteen quiet minutes soon, not whether you have ongoing weekly capacity. The listing states flat pay of $50 for a single accepted recording; the board's $30/hr figure is an observed effective rate for tasks of this length and is not a guaranteed hourly arrangement. Prior narration or voice-recording experience is a plus but is not required.
