What the work involves
This is a single, self-contained recording task rather than an ongoing engagement. You receive a short script and a step-by-step recording guide, read the script aloud in a quiet room, and upload the file through the platform AfterQuery designates. Most contributors finish in under 15 minutes including setup. The audio feeds speech datasets used to train and evaluate accent robustness in ASR and voice models, so what matters is that the recording is clean, complete, and genuinely yours — not that it sounds polished or broadcast-ready.
What the platform screens for
- Authenticity of accent. The whole value of the dataset is that the Portuguese influence on your English is native to how you speak. Imitated or performed accents are the primary rejection reason, and screeners are listening for it.
- Instruction compliance. The guide will specify things like file format, sampling environment, distance from the microphone, and whether to leave silence at the head and tail. Recordings that ignore a step are returned or discarded.
- Usable audio hygiene. No background television, no traffic, no clipping from speaking directly into the mic, no room echo severe enough to swamp the signal. A phone in a carpeted bedroom usually beats a laptop in a kitchen.
Logistics and pay
Fully remote and fully asynchronous — there is no call, no scheduled shift, and no ongoing quota. The listing states flat pay of $50 for a single accepted recording submission; the $30/hr band is an observed rate derived from that flat fee against the stated task length, not a guaranteed hourly wage, and there is no promise of repeat work. Turnaround is described as quick, so expect a short window between being assigned the script and being expected to submit. Contributors who deliver clean first-pass audio are often the ones contacted when similar accent-specific batches open.
