What the work involves
This is a single-sitting task, not an ongoing engagement. You receive a short script and a step-by-step recording guide, record yourself reading the script aloud in your natural Marathi-influenced English, and upload the file through the platform's submission form. Most contributors finish in under 15 minutes including setup. Pay is a flat $50 for one accepted recording — the $30/hr band is an inference from typical completion time, not a guaranteed rate, and there is no promise of repeat batches.
The recordings feed speech-model training and evaluation work, where accent diversity matters. That is why the brief insists on authenticity: the value of your file lies in it being how you actually speak English, with the phonology and rhythm a Marathi first-language speaker naturally carries.
What the platform screens for
- Genuine accent provenance. Screeners ask about your language background — where you grew up, which language you spoke at home, when you learned English. Performed or approximated accents are rejected, and the review is done by people who can hear the difference.
- Recording hygiene. No music, no television, no fan directly on the mic, no speakerphone. A quiet room and a phone held a hand's width away is usually sufficient; a studio is not expected.
- Instruction-following in English. The guide is written in English and there is no hand-holding. You need to read it, follow it exactly, and submit in the requested format without back-and-forth.
Logistics
Fully remote and fully asynchronous. There is no interview call, no scheduled shift, and no minimum weekly hours. Once approved, you complete the recording whenever suits you within the project's turnaround window — typically a few days. Equipment is your own smartphone or computer microphone; nothing is shipped to you. Payment is issued per accepted submission after review, and a submission with heavy background noise or a script deviation may be sent back for a retake before it is accepted.
