What the work involves

This is a single-sitting recording task, not an ongoing engagement. You receive a short script and a step-by-step recording guide, read the script aloud in your own voice, and upload the file. Most contributors finish in under 15 minutes including setup. The audio feeds speech datasets used to train and evaluate ASR and voice models on accented English — meaning the value of your submission lies precisely in the accent you already have, not in a polished broadcast delivery.

AfterQuery posts this kind of task in batches. Completing one cleanly and on time is generally what puts you in the pool for the next batch, so treat the first submission as the audition.

What the platform screens for

  • Authenticity of accent. They want native or long-term Lithuanian speakers whose English carries a genuine L1 influence. Imitated accents are the main rejection reason and are usually audible to a reviewer within a sentence.
  • Recording hygiene. No background TV, no fan hum, no clipping, no walking around the room mid-take. A quiet room and a phone held at a steady distance is enough — studio gear is not expected.
  • Instruction compliance. File format, naming, take count, and where the file goes are all specified. Submissions that ignore the guide get returned regardless of audio quality.
  • Independent English comprehension. All instructions arrive in written English with no hand-holding.

Logistics and pay

Fully remote and fully asynchronous — no calls, no scheduled sessions. You need a smartphone or computer with a working microphone and a quiet space for ten minutes. The listing states a flat $50 per single recording submission; the $30/hr band is the site's normalised comparison figure and is not a guaranteed hourly rate. Turnaround is short, so applicants who can record the same day they are assigned tend to be prioritised.
