What the work involves
This is a single-session audio contribution, not an ongoing engagement. You receive a short English script and a written recording guide, record yourself reading it on a smartphone or computer microphone, and upload the file. Most contributors finish in under 15 minutes. The guide typically covers things like room noise, distance from the mic, avoiding clipping, and re-recording a line cleanly rather than editing mid-take.
The voice being collected is the point: AfterQuery is sourcing authentic Estonian-influenced English speech, so the recording should sound like you speaking English normally — not a performance, not a broadcast-neutral delivery, and certainly not an accent you can imitate but do not natively carry. Contributors who over-perform or flatten their accent toward general American or RP usually get rejected.
What the platform screens for
- Accent authenticity. Expect a question about where you learned Estonian and English, and roughly how long you have spoken each. Some rounds include a short live or recorded speech sample.
- Instruction-following without hand-holding. The guide is written in English and there is no producer on the call; the screen checks that you can read specs and act on them alone.
- Basic recording hygiene. Not studio gear — just whether you understand quiet room, consistent distance, no background music or traffic, and the requested file format.
Logistics and pay
Fully remote and asynchronous, with no scheduled hours. The listing states a flat $50 for one accepted recording submission; the $30/hr band shown on this board is a normalized observed rate for comparison across the category and is not a guaranteed hourly wage. Turnaround is described as quick, so expect a short submission window once you are accepted. Additional batches sometimes follow for contributors whose first file passes QC, but nothing about repeat work is promised in the listing.
