What the work involves

This is a single-session audio contribution task, not an ongoing engagement. AfterQuery sends you a short script and a recording guide; you read the script aloud, record it on a phone or computer microphone, and upload the file through their submission link. Start to finish it is typically under 15 minutes. The recordings feed speech and accent datasets, so what matters is that your English carries a genuine Czech accent — the way you actually speak, not a performance of how a Czech speaker sounds.

What the platform screens for

  • Authenticity of accent. Screens are built to catch imitation. Expect to be asked where you grew up, what your first language is, and where you learned English — and expect a short live or recorded speech sample.
  • Audio hygiene. Quiet room, no clipping, no background TV or traffic, consistent distance from the mic. Most rejections are technical rather than linguistic.
  • Instruction-following in written English. The guide is not narrated to you. You need to read it, understand the file format and naming conventions, and act without hand-holding.
  • Turnaround. Projects like this open and close in days. Availability inside the stated window counts more than an impressive CV.

Logistics

Fully remote and asynchronous, done on your own equipment wherever you are. There are no scheduled calls, no fixed hours, and no minimum weekly commitment. Pay is flat per accepted submission rather than tracked hourly — if the script takes you seven minutes, the flat rate still applies. Contributors who submit clean audio on the first pass are commonly invited back for follow-on batches, which is the practical reason to get the technical details right the first time.
