What the work involves

This is a single-task audio contribution, not an ongoing engagement. AfterQuery provides a short English script and a recording guide; you read the script aloud in your own voice, using your natural Croatian-influenced English accent, and upload the file. Most contributors finish in under 15 minutes including setup. The guide covers the practical constraints — quiet room, consistent distance from the microphone, no background music or overlapping speech, one continuous take unless instructed otherwise, and a specified file format.

The recordings feed speech-recognition and speech-model evaluation work, where accent diversity is the point. That means the value of your submission comes from authenticity, not polish: a genuinely Croatian-accented English speaker reading naturally is exactly the signal being collected. Imitated or performed accents are the main reason submissions get rejected.

What the platform screens for

  • Authenticity of accent. Screening will probe where you learned English, where you grew up, and how much of your daily speech is in Croatian versus English. Expect to speak aloud at some point in the process.
  • Ability to follow written instructions unsupervised. There is no producer on the call. If the guide says 44.1 kHz mono WAV, that is what the reviewer expects to receive.
  • Basic recording hygiene. Not studio quality — just an audible, clip-free, single-speaker file with minimal room noise and no phone notifications.
  • Turnaround. These are quick-turnaround batches, often with a submission window of a few days.

Logistics

Fully remote and fully asynchronous — no scheduled calls, no timezone requirement. A smartphone with a working microphone is sufficient; a headset or USB mic is a bonus, not a gate. Pay is stated by the platform as a flat $50 per single recording submission, which annualises to roughly the $30/hr band observed on comparable AfterQuery audio tasks given the ~15-minute task length. Additional batches are sometimes offered to contributors whose first submission passes review, but repeat work is not promised.
