What the work actually involves

This is applied-workflow capture, not software testing or bug reporting. You perform realistic VMware Fusion tasks on your own Mac — creating and configuring VMs, adjusting network adapters and shared folders, taking and reverting snapshots, resizing virtual disks, handling Apple silicon guest OS constraints, troubleshooting a VM that won't boot — while recording high-resolution screenshots and writing precise step descriptions. The value to the model is in the reasoning trail: why you chose bridged over NAT, what the error text actually said, which menu path you took and what you ruled out first. Tasks are submitted asynchronously and reviewed against a rubric; rework requests are common early on and are part of the process.

What the platform screens for

Immediate access. You must already have VMware Fusion installed on a Mac running macOS and be able to open it today. Mercor does not provide licenses, VMs, or hardware.
Display capability. Screenshots must exceed 2.5 megapixels. Either one monitor at or above the listed thresholds (4K, QHD, 5K, 16-inch or 14-inch MacBook Pro built-in panels, 3440×1440 ultrawide, etc.) or two 1920×1080+ displays captured as a single spanning image. A lone 1080p screen fails.
Real operational history. Screeners probe for specifics — Fusion version, Intel vs. Apple silicon experience, guest OSes you actually run, problems you actually hit. Generic virtualization talk that never names a dialog box or an error string reads as secondhand.

Logistics

Fully remote and asynchronous, with no fixed shifts. Contributors typically commit 10–20 hours a week in self-scheduled blocks, though volume fluctuates with project demand and is not guaranteed. Pay in the $55–65/hr band has been observed on comparable Mercor application-expert projects; your rate is set at offer and depends on screening outcome and project. Expect an AI-led interview covering your background, a few hands-on depth probes, and a concrete availability question before any task access is granted.
