What the work involves

This is applied-application data work, not a developer job. You are asked to carry out realistic Android Studio workflows on your own Mac — creating or opening a project, editing Kotlin or Java sources, running Gradle syncs, using the layout inspector, debugging on an emulator or a connected device, resolving build errors — and to capture the screen state at each step alongside a written account of what you did and why. The output is a paired record: high-resolution screenshots plus precise, reproducible descriptions of the UI actions, menu paths and IDE state. Tasks are typically issued in batches with a spec describing the target workflow, and reviewers check whether your capture actually shows what your notes claim it shows.

What the platform screens for

  • Genuine Android Studio fluency. Screens go past 'I've used it' into specifics: where Build Variants live, what a Gradle sync failure looks like versus a compile error, how you'd inspect a running layout, the difference between an AVD and a physical device workflow.
  • Working access today. Mercor does not issue licences, VMs, or hardware. If you cannot open Android Studio on a Mac right now, this listing is not for you.
  • Display capability. Screenshots must clear 2.5 megapixels — either one monitor at or above the listed thresholds (a 14" or 16" MacBook Pro built-in panel qualifies) or two side-by-side 1080p-or-better displays captured as a single spanning image.
  • Documentation discipline. Descriptions that a stranger could follow to reproduce the same screen, without ambiguity about which pane or dialog is in view.

Logistics

Fully remote and asynchronous. Work is claimed and delivered in batches rather than scheduled shifts, so hours are flexible, but batches carry deadlines and availability questions in the screen are asking about real weekly capacity — typically 10–20 hours is where contributors find the work worthwhile. Pay in the $55–65/hr range has been observed on this listing; rates are set per project and are not guaranteed. Expect an initial calibration batch reviewed closely before volume increases.
