What the work involves

You write the kind of task a working editor would recognize: raw footage in, a defined deliverable out, and a documented path between them. Some days that means authoring a scenario — a multicam interview with drifting audio sync, a 60-second social cutdown from a 12-minute master — and then producing the reference cut plus a written critique explaining why each cut lands where it does. Other days you sit on the grading side, watching AI-generated clips or model-proposed edit decisions and scoring them for continuity errors, pacing that doesn't breathe, mismatched eyelines, unstable grades, or motion that reads as physically impossible.

The written component matters more than most editing gigs. A cut you'd defend in a review session with "it just feels right" has to become two or three sentences about the action beat, the audio tail, and what the previous shot already established. Labs use that reasoning as much as the timeline itself.

What the platform screens for

  • Verifiable craft history. Two-plus years of paid post work, and a reel you can point to with specifics about your role on each piece.
  • Tool depth over tool lists. Screeners follow up. Naming Resolve is not the same as describing how you'd handle a node tree for a shot with mixed color temperature, or what you actually do when Premiere's media cache corrupts mid-project.
  • Grading discipline. Whether you can separate "this is not how I would cut it" from "this is objectively broken," and articulate the difference.
  • Written clarity in English, since the artifact is prose as much as video.

Logistics

Fully remote and asynchronous — no standing calls, no fixed shift. You need a workstation that can actually run your NLE on real footage, and enough bandwidth to pull and push media. Expect to commit at least 10 hours per week, with volume that scales up or down by week. Pay is weekly via Stripe, at a rate set from your demonstrated experience within the observed $50–90/hr band; nothing about a specific rate is guaranteed before assessment.
