What the work actually involves

This is a writing role with a data spine. On a given day you might take a public dataset, answer a set of analytical questions against it, and produce a deliverable — a notebook, a structured document, an annotated artifact — where the reasoning is legible to a researcher who wasn't in the room. Much of the underlying data is JSON, so you need to be comfortable reading nested structures, spotting malformed or inconsistent records, and describing what you found without hand-waving. Python is a tool here, not the job: enough to load, filter, validate, and check your own claims before writing them down.

The other half is collaboration. You'll be turning conversations with researchers and stakeholders into concise narratives and recommendations, which means asking what question is really being asked, documenting assumptions explicitly, and making methods traceable so someone else can reproduce your conclusion. Deliverables are judged on accuracy and structure as much as prose quality.

What the screen looks for

Turing's evaluation is a single 60-minute technical interview with a live coding component. Expect to be asked to manipulate or inspect data in front of the interviewer and to explain your reasoning out loud while doing it — the coding is there to confirm your Python and JSON comfort is real, not to test algorithms. Candidates who can only talk about writing, or who write well but freeze when asked to open a file and check a claim, tend not to pass. Bring concrete past deliverables you can describe in detail: what the audience was, what the data was, what you concluded, and how you verified it.

Logistics

  • Fully remote contractor assignment; no medical or paid leave.
  • Minimum 4 hours per day, 20 hours per week, with at least 4 hours overlapping PST.
  • Initial contract of 3 months, adjustable based on engagement.
  • Hiring is open to candidates located in India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana, Bangladesh, Turkey, Brazil, and Mexico.
